The rest of the world has used small sided games as an introduction to soccer football for many decades and point out the basic difference between the quality and skill level of the average Australian player versus the rest of the world. The National Body had accepted this and have moved to make the change. The BDSFA Inc has joined the challenge.
From 2008, Under 6's will play 4 vs 4 on field half the size of the current 45x30mt "Roo Ball" field.
All the available statistics show the young players will get more touches of the ball, more time in "one on one" player challenges and a huge improvement in confidence and personal skill levels.
To ensure its success, the Management Committee will flesh out a total approach over the off-season culminating in an orientation day at its headquarters at Francis Park Blacktown on March 29th for players, coaches, managers and parents. Blacktown Spartans Soccer Club and Local Premier League Club, Blacktown Demons have welcomed the initiative and Demons Head Coach Ken Schembri has offered his assistance with extra qualified coaches and coordinators.
The BDSFA sees this as the future tool to its already focused coaching policy. As one of the most progressive Associations in the State, Blacktown has already more qualified coaches then any other grass roots provider. All coaches must meet the basic minimum coaching license to take a team and the BDSFA provides funding for all coaches accreditation.
